When we last visited Brazil in December 2014 for 2 months, we spent some time at one of the recovery houses in Sao Luis. We had been before but this time Daniel was set a challenge at the ‘Casa de Davi’. He was tasked with making 10 sets of triple bunk beds for the house. This was a tall order in a place where we had no materials, no tools, no form of transport and Daniel had never made beds before!
Not one to decline a challenge, Daniel agreed and got on with designing the beds. Much to his relief, the plans came together well and the beds were made.
What Daniel enjoyed most about the project was the opportunity to work with the men in the house and spend time chatting with them as they learned a bit about welding. It really encouraged us and opened our eyes as to how a metal workshop could work. We hear the beds are holding up strong!
